I went to CSULB for a Masters in Kinesiology. English was technically my second language and I have always struggled with English growing up. Fast forward, I had taken an English course that was enough to pass undergraduate college. When I took the masters program I was asked to write a comprehensive exam under the advisor of Joshua Cotter. Needless to say, he didn't advise me on anything productive with formatting and writing the Thesis. During the time I had gotten accepted to a Doctor of Physical Therapy program and was accustomed to AMA formate. I was confused on which formate to write as there were not courses on writing research in ANY format. Needless to say I had passed all the courses and just needed to finish the thesis. I failed the program because they told me I was not "master level." Well I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy with having the ability to communicate in four different languages (English, American Sign Language, Vietnamese, and Spanish.) For a while I thought that I had failed the masters program but in actuality, CSULB Kinesiology program FAILED me.

Compared with UC Davis, Cal State Long Beach feels like a more practical and honest option for many students. CSULB may not have the same UC branding, but it offers a clearer sense of value, location advantage, student energy, and affordability. For students thinking about real ROI instead of prestige hype, Long Beach feels much easier to respect. UC Davis, by contrast, feels overrated and weak on the metrics that matter most: outcomes, return on investment, safety, and overall payoff. The UC name sounds impressive, but when employment-related indicators are reported around 33.3/100 and salary outcomes do not feel strong enough for Californiaβs cost of living, the value becomes very questionable. Safety is another issue applicants should not ignore. UC Davis has had highly publicized incidents around the campus community, including the Davis stabbing case and reported student tragedies, which should make families look carefully at safety reports instead of blindly trusting the college-town image. CSULB feels more grounded, affordable, and realistic. UC Davis feels inflated, expensive for the return, and not convincing enough to justify the hype.

Volunteered today at the Special Olympics, which took place on the CSULB campus. Campus is beautifully maintained and we really enjoyed exploring the grounds. My family is going to make reservations to explore the Japanese garden, which we've heard is immaculate. We'll worth a visit.

CSULB is one of those places that earns its reputation every single time. The campus itself is stunning β well-maintained, open, and genuinely one of the more beautiful university grounds in Southern California. Walking through it feels like a place that takes pride in what it represents. Beyond the aesthetics, the real value is in the outcomes. Graduates from Long Beach consistently land strong careers across tech, business, healthcare, and the arts. The university has built real pipelines into industry β this isn't just a degree mill, it's a launchpad. And if you're into athletics, the 49ers bring serious energy to campus. The culture around the sports programs adds a dimension that keeps the community connected and engaged year-round. Whether you're considering enrollment, recommending it to someone, or just passing through β CSULB delivers. Highly recommend.

Beautiful college campus in the heart of Long Beach. The campus classroom buildings all have different characteristics from those that are modern to those that still have vintage aesthetic qualities to them. The campus is packed with students but the area and space is vast enough to feel comfortable while walking to and from classes. Everyone looks focused and ready to learn! There are many food options situated all across campus and the cafeteria I ate at had ample space for all the students to sit and relax in between classes.
